Legislature adjourned early for a five month summer break

The Premier and his government are doing everything they can to avoid accountability.

On June 2nd, the Premier and his government voted to adjourn the Legislature two days early and come back five weeks later. The Legislature was set to return on September 14th, but we will only be returning on October 27th, one day after the municipal elections take place. Since January, the Premier (when he actually shows up) and his government have only sat for an embarrassing 30 days.

The Premier and his government have no respect for hardworking Ontario families. How could they? They just gave themselves a five month extended summer vacation.

How can the government tell us that there are so many pressing issues facing Ontarians, and then decide to keep the Legislature silent for half the year? Legislation is needed to help solve a majority of the important issues that Ontarians care about. Overcrowded classrooms and lead in school drinking water won’t be taking five months off. Emergency surgery wait times and the over 2.5 million Ontarians who still don’t have access to a family doctor won’t be taking five months off.

We’re especially thinking of our hardworking teachers right now who still have a few weeks left in the classroom before they can enjoy some much-deserved time off.

Hardworking Ontarians don’t have the luxury of taking five months off from their responsibilities, and neither should this Premier and his government.

So far this year, the Premier and his government have only sat in the Legislature for a total of 30 days (all of the days highlighted in green).

Summer activity during adjournment

While the Legislature is adjourned until October 27th, our constituency office remains open and ready to help Orléans residents with any provincial issues.

June is a very busy time with school graduations and end of year BBQs. For me, it’s also the beginning of the cycling season, so I look forward to getting out on my bike and touring across Orléans. I hope to see many of you out there enjoying the beautiful weather. If you see me in the community, please come and say hello.

Please feel free to reach out to us if we can help with anything or if there is a community event that you would like to bring to our attention.
