MPP Stephen Blais is happy to share that the new public elementary school opening its doors to the Mer Bleue community this August will be named Brian Mulroney Elementary School in honour of Canada’s 18th prime minister.
Nelson Mandela is welcomed by former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and Members of Parliament during a visit to Ottawa on June 18, 1990.
Brian Mulroney helped expand economic opportunities through free trade, strengthened environmental cooperation with the United States and took a principled stand against apartheid in South Africa. His leadership left a lasting mark both at home and abroad.
This new school on Spring Valley Drive will accommodate nearly 700 students and offer families a choice between English with Core French and Early French Immersion. It will support the growing needs of one of Orléans’ fastest growing communities.
“While I may not sit on the government benches, I have worked relentlessly with local school boards and the province to secure more than $100 million in new school funding for Orléans since I was elected MPP in 2020. That is six new schools: a new elementary school for each of the four school boards. New high schools for both the French Public and English Catholic school boards, and additions at École élémentaire catholique Notre-Dame-des-Champs and Collège catholique Mer Bleue.
I look forward to seeing this school become a cornerstone of the Bradley Estates community for generations of students, and I’m so excited to visit Brian Mulroney Elementary School this fall to celebrate this exciting milestone with the community.” - Stephen Blais, MPP for Orléans
(These schools and additions are at various stages of construction or pre-construction planning approvals with the City of Ottawa.)
