Legislature set to return on August 8
The Legislative Assembly of Ontario is returning for a summer sitting on August 8. This will give the Ontario government an opportunity to table and pass their budget, and lay out its priorities through the Speech From the Throne.This will be the first Session for many members who were elected for the first time on June 2.
Remembering Gisèle Lalonde, Local Champion
Gisèle Lalonde, a true champion for the Franco-Ontarian community, passed away at the age of 89 at the Montfort Hospital on July 27, 2022.Gisèle Lalonde led the ferocious charge to save the Montfort Hospital from closing down in 1997, when the Ontario government slashed healthcare funding and services.Being the only hospital administered in French has played an integral role in addressing the health needs of our Francophone community, and without the leadership and determination of Mrs. Lalonde, the Montfort Hospital would not be open today.Gisèle was a true champion for our city, province, and country.Rest in Peace, Mrs. Gisèle Lalonde.
FAO Expenditure Report on Deficit
On July 19, The Financial Accountability Office of Ontario (FAO) released their Expenditure Monitor 2021-22 Q4 Report.The FAO projects a provincial deficit of $8.1 Billion in 2021-2022.This report provides information on spending by the Province through the end of the 2021-22 fiscal year.

Ontario Government Drops Masking Requirements
ICYMI - On June 11, 2022, the Ontario government, in conjunction with the Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Kieran Moore, dropped masking requirements in most of the province's remaining masking mandates, including on public transit.However, to continue providing an additional layer of protection for the most vulnerable, masks will still be required in long-term care and retirement homes. Masking is recommended in higher-risk congregate living settings, such as shelters and group homes.
