In memory of Ross Bradley 🕊️

I was saddened to learn of the passing of Ross Bradley, a remarkable community builder, volunteer and proud son of Navan.

When I was first elected as City Councillor, even before I had been officially sworn in, I attended an event in Navan. Ross was there. I still remember that he was one of the very first people to welcome me with a smile and make me feel like I was truly part of the village family. That was Ross. He had a way of making people feel welcome, included and connected to the community he loved so deeply.

Ross’s life was one of service. He served as a trustee on the Cumberland Township Public School Board from 1965 to 1968 during a period of real growth in our community. During his time on the Board, Meadowview School in Navan and Riverview School in Cumberland Village were built, and the sod was turned for Queenswood Public School in Orléans. Those schools helped shape generations of local families, and they remain part of the lasting legacy of people like Ross who understood the importance of investing in children, families and community.

His commitment to Navan extended far beyond education. Ross had been a member of the Navan Lions Club since 1960, giving more than six decades of service through one of the community’s most important volunteer organizations. He was instrumental in the creation of the Navan Tennis Club in 1976, helping to expand recreational opportunities for local residents. He was also a driving force behind the formation of the Navan Curling Club in 1984 and its eventual construction in 1991, continuing to serve as a member of its Board of Directors.

Ross also helped preserve and honour the community’s history. He served on the fundraising committee for the Navan Cenotaph, located beside the Navan Memorial Arena, ensuring that those who served and sacrificed would be remembered by future generations. He helped pull together the history of Cumberland Township and to establish the Navan Community Builders Wall in front of the fire station.

What stands out most about Ross is not only the long list of organizations, projects and accomplishments attached to his name. It’s the spirit behind them. Ross believed in Navan. He believed in neighbours helping neighbours. He believed that strong communities are built by people who show up, lend a hand and keep working until something good is created for others.

Navan, Cumberland, Orléans and our entire community are better because Ross Bradley chose to serve. His legacy can be seen in the schools, clubs, facilities, traditions and friendships he helped build over a lifetime.

My deepest condolences go to Ross’ family, friends and everyone in Navan who knew and loved him. He will be missed, but his contributions will continue to be felt for many years to come.
