Stephen Blais bursary

Cumberland Ward Councillor Stephen Blais is pleased to announce that former St. Peter Catholic High School student Carley Stewart is this year’s recipient of the Stephen Blais Bursary at Carleton University.

“I am very grateful to Stephen Blais for establishing this bursary as an opportunity for students to pursue higher education,” says Stewart. “This money has allowed me to achieve my academic goals for my first year of university.”

Stewart is in her first-year of study at Carleton University and is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts.

Blais established the Stephen Blais Bursary at Carleton University following his commitment in the 2006 election for school trustee to not accept the 150% raise trustee’s voted themselves.

“It was important for me to keep my campaign promise to give back the massive raise for trustees,” says Blais. “It’s even more important for me to help students in need to realize their dreams of higher learning.”

The $5,000 donation to Carleton University was matched dollar for dollar by the provincial government through the Ontario Trust for Student Support for a total value of $10,000. The yearly bursary will continue annually in perpetuity due to the earned interest on the donation.
