Ottawa City Council approved a motion by Cumberland Councillor Stephen Blais to make city contractors more accountable.
“The City needs to be run like one would run their household,” says Blais. “When I get bad service from my mechanic or the contractor renovating my house I don’t hire them again. This is the philosophy the City needs.”
By standardizing the evaluation method for contractors all city departments will have consistent information about the contractors history with the City. Furthermore, if a contractor provides poor service they may be banned from future work.
“Whether you are paving a road, renovating a recreation centre or doing any other work for the city we expect good service and value for the taxpayers,” says Blais. “Those who don’t perform won’t get future work.”
