Ottawa Still Wants In

Whereas the Ontario Government is providing $1.2 billion of tax subsidies to the City of Toronto which is about $396.61 for every resident of that city....

...and the deal announced for Ottawa will see $197 million in operating investments over three years. That is about $181.81 per Ottawa resident;

Whereas the Ontario Government will provide funding to cover operating deficits in the City of Toronto;

Whereas the Ontario Government will provide $330 million in new transit operating funding for the City of Toronto and the City of Ottawa will get nothing;

Whereas the Ontario Government will upload all responsibility for the Don Valley Parkway and the Gardiner Expressway;

Whereas the taxpayers of Ottawa will help pay for the subsidies for the City of Toronto;

Whereas the City of Ottawa is running significant operating deficits;

Whereas the City of Ottawa is facing a housing affordability and homelessness crisis;

Whereas the City of Ottawa is considering refugee camp style tents to house the homeless;

Whereas OC Transpo is losing $40 million a year;

Whereas OC Transpo is cutting bus routes;

Whereas the City of Ottawa is not prioritizing infrastructure investments in growing communities;

Whereas the City of Ottawa has spent tens of millions of dollars maintaining Highway 174;

Whereas HWY 174 is in need of major safety improvements and investment to reduce commute times;

Whereas the City of Ottawa has requested the Ontario Government re-upload HWY 174 and the Government have finally announced they will think about it...and study the idea over 3 years;

We call on the Ontario Government to sign a fair deal for Ottawa, fund public transit and infrastructure investments and re-upload HWY 174 this year.
