Blais proposes $8 million expansion of Millennium Park

Largest investment in park infrastructure since amalgamation

Cumberland City Councillor Stephen Blais today announced that with the signing of a memorandum of understanding with local home builders, that his Millennium Park expansion initiative has cleared its first hurdle in becoming a reality for taxpayers of the east end.

“Millennium will be the premiere destination for minor soccer and football in Ottawa. The additional fields and the showcase turf field will allow for thousands more children to participate in minor sports.”

The $8.0M park expansion is being constructed in partnership with local homebuilders who will design, build and fund the majority of the park.

Millennium Park is a family-oriented destination sports and recreational park located in Cumberland Ward’s emerging community in Ottawa’s east end, with ample surface parking for cars and buses, along with sidewalks and trails for pedestrians and cyclists ensures easy access to all park users. An on-site loop provides direct access to transit users.

Millennium Park caters to organized sports clubs and casual users alike. The expansion initiatives will provide year-round access to junior clubs. A multitude of active and passive park amenities will appeal to all members of the community, from children to the elderly. Multi-use recreational pathways provide community connections while directing park users to shade structures and treed picnic areas, open lawn areas, a central play zone with climbers, swings, play structures and a splash pad and to the park’s numerous sports fields.
