Trans Orléans Cycling and Pedestrian Pathway Construction Set to Begin

Cumberland City Councillor Stephen Blais is proud to announce that a major 2014 election commitment, the Trans Orléans Cycling and Pedestrian Pathway, is in its final design stage and should be shovel ready by this fall.

“The Trans Orléans Cycling and Pedestrian Pathway is the most important pedestrian and cycling project for Orléans and Cumberland residents,” says Councillor Blais. “The Trans Orléans Cycling and Pedestrian Pathway will complement the millions of dollars invested to build new parks and recreational facilities in Orléans by connecting the community with a completely segregated and safe corridor for residents to cycle, jog, walk, rollerblade and cross country ski.”

In addition to Blais’ efforts to secure multi-million dollar investments to 12 new parks, the new Francois Dupuis Pool & Recreation Centre and the expansion of Millennium Park, this plan will also provide an enormous recreational benefit for residents of Orléans and Cumberland.

“The Trans Orléans Cycling and Pedestrian Pathway will connect our community and act as the backbone for a larger network through Orléans and Cumberland,” adds Blais. “It will allow residents of all ages to safely travel to and from many destinations not having to use a car or a bus.”

The Trans Orléans Cycling and Pedestrian Pathway will represent one of the largest single investments in pedestrian and cycling infrastructure in the history of the east end. This pathway will be an enormous improvement in access to safe areas for cyclists, walkers, joggers and rollerbladers.

When all phases are built, the Trans Orléans Cycling and Pedestrian Pathway will connect Trim Road (in the east) to Navan Road (in the west) with roughly 6.5 kilometres of multiuse pathway using the corridor reserved for the future Cumberland Transitway. The first phase will be 3 KM long and connect Trim Road to Tenth Line.

Major destinations points adjacent to the Trans Orléans Cycling and Pedestrian Pathway will include, Millennium Park, the future Orléans Health Hub, Innes Road shopping, dining and entertainment, with a final connection to the future Bradley Estates Park & Ride.
