Ottawa City Councillor Stephen Blais, Vice Chair of the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, is pleased to celebrate National Nutrition Month. This year’s Nutrition Month slogan is, “Celebrate food…from field to table.”
Emphasizing the importance of the region’s agriculture sector is important for the City of Ottawa.
“Farmers and the agriculture industry provide urban residents with a life-essential resource – food,” says Councillor Blais.
“Buying from local producers is a great way to support the local economy and to ensure that residents are eating high quality, nutritional food products,” adds Blais. “The Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee is pleased to support Ottawa area farmers and food producers,” continued Blais.
On Monday, March 7 Councillors Stephen Blais and Doug Thompson visited a local farmer who continues to harvest produce during the winter months through a state of the art Green House.
Local farmer Gerry Rochon was pleased to host Councillors Blais and Thompson at his farming operation to showcase how Ottawa residents can continue to enjoy local produce even during the winter months.
