Councillor Blais secures funding to improve local baseball diamond
Cumberland City Councillor Stephen Blais is proud to have secured the necessary funding requested by the Orléans Little League baseball club to improve the Wilfred Murray Baseball Diamond (upper).
“By improving this wonderful baseball diamond, Wilfred Murray will lead to a better and more professional playing area for our athletes,” says Councillor Blais. “I am pleased to have worked with our local baseball club and residents to make this a reality that will last decades.”
The new investment of over $25,000 will see the dugouts get new covers, a clay restoration of the pitching mound and home plate area, a restoration of the bullpen area, and base anchors for the magnetic bases.
“Cumberland Ward is growing at such a rapid pace that we need to ensure investments keep pace for our local sports clubs,” added Councillor Blais. “We are thankful to have so many committed volunteers that we need to help them wherever possible.”
The funding was provided by the City of Ottawa through the Rural Community Building Grant – a fund that has been set up to to help rural groups and rural facilities.
