Blais delivers major safety improvement for Orléans

Cumberland Councillor Stephen Blais alongside Mayor Jim Watson celebrated the groundbreaking of what will be the newest fire station in Ottawa, Station 55.

“This is a big win for the Orléans community,” says Councillor Blais.  “We have had huge growth in the past few years, and soon it will become difficult for the Ottawa Fire Service to keep up. Having a station like this in the heart of the neighbourhood will surely bring peace of mind to Cumberland Ward residents”.

Built on City owned land and constructed to a LEED Silver standard the building demonstrates Ottawa’s commitment to both energy efficiency and fiscal restraint.

“Common sense approaches can ensure we protect the environment and your pocket book at the same time,” adds Blais.”

Station 55 will be located directly across from the François Dupuis Recreation Centre. The two bay station at 2283 Portobello Boulevard will allow the Ottawa Fire Service to reduce emergency response times in the high growth areas of Orléans.

“The men and women of our fire service go above and beyond to keep our families safe,” adds Blais. “By providing the best, most modern equipment in the heart of our community will help them do just that.”

Construction is anticipated to be completed in 2018.
