I am happy to say that the Ontario government has listened to my calls to strengthen bail reform in Ontario. The government has announced $112M to immediately strengthen the province’s bail system and ensure that high-risk and repeat violent offenders comply with their bail conditions.
As a Member on the Standing Committee on Justice Policy, I have been vocal since day one to the Ontario government to urgently strengthen Ontario’s bail system to keep violent and repeat offenders behind bars.
This funding will be used to support new technology, establish violent crime bail teams, expand the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement Squad and provide prosecutors with the resources they need to conduct complex bail hearings.
You can read the government’s full announcement here.
