Cumberland Councillor Stephen Blais, alongside the Cumberland Panthers and Mattamy Homes helped unveil the Cumberland Panthers Scoreboard at Millennium field Saturday.

The Panthers partnered with the City of Ottawa last year to fund the project but shortly after the election it became clear a funding gap was present. Blais approached Mattamy Homes who generously offered to sponsor the Panthers and make the scoreboard a reality.

“As a former football coach, I am a firm believer in the benefits of amateur sports for the youth of our community,” says Blais. “When I met with Mattamy Homes earlier this year it was clear they shared this commitment to community involvement. Putting them together with the Panthers was a natural fit.”

Mattamy Homes will soon to welcome new residents into their Cumberland Summerside Development in Cumberland Ward.

“We are excited to be in Orléans and for the opportunity to sponsor the Millennium Park scoreboard,” says Susan Murphy, Land Development Vice President of Mattamy Homes.

The nearly $30,000 Panthers scoreboard is joint funding initiative between the City of Ottawa, Mattamy Homes and the Cumberland Panthers. The scoreboard will be located at Millennium Park and represents a great addition to the local Cumberland amateur sport community.

“The Panther Family has been working towards this for years with all our fundraising and community efforts. With the added financial assistance from the City and new sponsor Mattamy Homes it’s becoming a reality,” says Cumberland Panthers President Heather de Repentigny. “This project could not have happened without the support of our many volunteers, our supportive City Councillors and staff, and the hundreds of kids who participate in Panther football every year.”
