Cumberland City Councillor Stephen Blais is pleased to announce the extension of Provence Road is now complete and the road is open to the public.

“I am very excited that this crucial component to the connectivity of Notting Hill South is now complete,” says Councillor Blais. “Provence is an important thoroughfare for linking Notting Hill and Notting Hill South and will reduce pressure on Portobello, Esprit, Trim and Tenth Line,” Blais adds.

Provence Road was not scheduled for completion until the surrounding lands were developed some time in the future.

Councillor Blais used a creative financing method to have the funds allocated to construct the connection more than a decade ahead of schedule. This $1.6 million investment into Orléans is being delivered on budget and ahead of schedule.

“With our rapidly growing community, the early extension of Provence Avenue is welcome news,” says Pamela Moss, President of the Portobello South Community Development Association.

“The opening today will mean better traffic flow, making our streets safer and generally improving our neighborhood. Thanks to Councillor Blais and the City of Ottawa for getting this done.”

The new streetscape was designed to be visually pleasing. It will feature wide lanes, large sidewalks on both sides, and a great tree canopy. Pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists alike will have a safe new boulevard to get home and travel on within their community.

“Not only are we able to take traffic pressure off surrounding streets and school zones, the Provence extension will also connect families and students walking or bicycling south to the new Provence Park, or north to École Béatrice-Desloges and École De la Découverte,” says Councillor Blais. “Provence is a great and safe way to re-connect the north and south ends of our community,” adds Blais.
