Hundreds of trees being planted in Cumberland Ward

Cumberland City Councillor Stephen Blais is pleased to announce that hundreds of new trees will be planted to help reforest our community by replacing trees that have been recently damaged or lost to disease.

“It is incumbent upon us to support our environment for residents of today and the future,” says Blais. “In addition to improving air quality, trees can really turn a dull looking area into something more relaxing and enjoyable.”

Many of the trees are being planted to replace those damaged or destroyed by the Emerald Ash Borer through the Trees in Trust Program. As a result, starting September 28th, more than 120 trees will be planted throughout parks, city facilities, roads and residences in Cumberland Ward.

“The Trees in Trust Program is a very successful program throughout the city to help repopulate our communities with trees,” adds Blais. “At no cost to homeowners, a tree can be installed along the City right of way.

Councillor Blais is inviting the public to a community planting event that will take place on Saturday, October 17th, 9:00am, at Marcel Lalande Park, 2157 Northlands Dr.

In June, Councillor Blais was proud to announce the protection of 238 acres of Forest in Cumberland Ward by the South Nation Conservation Authority.

As a board member, Blais encouraged South Nation and its partner the Ontario Heritage Trust to acquire the property and ensure the protection, maintenance, restoration and enhancement of its natural features.
