Local Community Association receives major funding boost

Cumberland City Councillor and community champion Stephen Blais visited the Carlsbad Springs Carnival last weekend after helping them attain $4,000 in funding for the weekend festivities

“I’m really happy that I had the opportunity to support the Carlsbad Springs Community Association with this initiative,” says Blais. “Having exciting events like this in the middle of winter is a great way to raise peoples’ spirits.”

The free carnival had a traditional “red and white” theme in celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary, and was held in Harkness Park. The carnival featured a traditional French Canadian brunch, a Euchre and Military Whist tournament, outdoor curling and a master ice sculptor.

“Our rural based community is used to working in partnership.” says Lucie Regimbald, principal event organizer. “I am most proud in the collective effort of all of our community organizations in Carlsbad Springs who answered the call to help ensure a successful celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary.”

The association was awarded the moneys as part of the Civic Event Funding Grant for 2017, which was expanded by City Council in anticipation of Canada’s 150th celebrations.

“We’ve worked hard to support our rural communities with investments in community infrastructure and events to bring people together,” adds Blais. “We have seen a lot changes over the past six years and with the dedicated volunteers in our community I’m confident there is still more to come.”
